English Madrasa for Islamic Studies

From Humble Beginnings to Educational Excellence

The Kerala Islamic Group Kuwait (KIG) established its first Malayalam medium madrasa in 1979, initially named Madrasa al-Irshad, located at the Muthanna Complex near Maliya, Kuwait City. This madrasa later transitioned into Al Najat School in Salmiya, becoming known as Madrasa An-Najat. For some years, it was managed by the Friday Forum Kuwait. Today, KIG has expanded its madrasa movement into a prominent organization with eight branches across various governorates in Kuwait, including four Malayalam medium branches and four English medium branches that cater to international students, all managed by the KIG Education Board. The madrasas currently serve over 1,500 students and employ more than 150 teachers and staff members from different nationalities.

The syllabus of the madrasas primarily focuses on the Quran, Sunnah, the Arabic language, and basic Islamic life teachings, providing a strong foundation in Islamic education. The educational structure is designed to cater to different stages of a child’s development, beginning with the Kindergarten level, which follows the Heavens Preschool curriculum over two years. This is followed by three years of Pre-primary education and four years of Primary classes, making it a comprehensive nine-year program. The madrasas operate weekly, with Saturday as the only working day. The system is professionally managed, reflecting KIG's commitment to excellence. These madrasas serve as centers of excellence for Islamic primary education in Kuwait, providing high-quality education that combines religious and academic learning in a balanced environment.

In addition to academics in Islamic studies, the madrasas offer a range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including talent search exams, arts and sports events, cultural programs, and competitions, all designed to nurture the students’ diverse talents and support their emotional and psychological development.

KIG’s madrasas operate with official permission from the Kuwait Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ensuring compliance with local regulations. Given that Islamic education in general schools in Kuwait is often considered insufficient, many parents rely on these madrasas to provide their children with a thorough Islamic education.
